Thrifty Money-Saving Tips Recycling
Water
We
have developed the habit of collecting water each day in a three-gallon buck in
our shower/tub because the water heater is located on the other side of our home
and it takes a couple of minutes for the hot water to move from the heater to
the shower/tub. More...
By collecting it, we use it flush the commode, to water our plants or for other purposes around the yard, cleaning, etc. We also turn off the water's flow while brushing our teeth until it's time to rinse and while we are actually taking a shower during the "lathering up time" because there's really no reason to let the shower run while you are soaping up, once you're good and wet. We figure that these common sense steps save us thousands of gallons of water. Our water bill has been cut by 50% and we're just a clean as any one! Of course, if it's cold or you have a sore back, the warm water feels pretty good. We also have our hot water heater set on the low side to conserve electricity and our water heater is only turned on while we wash clothes or take showers. We just turn it on manually when we need hot water in 10 minutes. When we're done, it goes off. Our electric bill has fallen by 25%. Nice savings on both water and electricity. * * * October 2004 Tip Rewards Winner!!!
